Help Save a Newf! San Diego Newfoundland Rescue

Great Dogs looking for Great Owners

It happens. People think they will be able to care for a large breed dog and than life throws them a curve ball they never saw coming. A divorce, a death, a move out of state from a home with a backyard to a condo with no outdoor space and a horrific work schedule included. There are many reason people find themselves unable to care for these fantastic dogs, but that is the reason our organization exists, to help these displaced Newfs find new homes where they can thrive. We need help from people like you to keep our Rescue going. What can you do?

If you are placing a dog in Rescue, call us 760-390-0473 as soon as possible. Even if you are not 100% certain you will end up needing to relinquish your dog, give us a heads up as early as possible. We need time to find the right foster home for your dog. Please don't wait until the last minute. We'd rather you changed your mind than only give us hours to coordinate a pick-up.

Please let us know if you can help in any way!

Newfy "Personal Ad"

Were a Newf to post a personal ad it might look something like this:

Looking for Love. I like long walks, good food, and a crisp, clear bowl of water. I enjoy spending long hours with my loved ones, one on one time, and just sitting, talking or watching TV. My ideal date would be a sunset stroll on the beach, playing in the surf and then driving home in the car with the windows rolled down. I like to cuddle on the sofa (the bigger the better).
I am a loyal friend, a good listener and enjoy children. Due to some recent upheavals in my life I am looking for someone who is stable, dependable, loyal and loving - someone just like me.
Oh! And I am a hairy beast with a propensity to drool all over things (sofas, beds, people in their good clothes, or the bad ones). I am non-judgmental. Some think I look mean because of my size, but inside I am just a pussy-cat -- or, make that jello.

If this sounds like your perfect date, please contact us 760-390-0473 to request an application, or download it here!

Ways you can help

Foster Homes. Where do these dogs go when they come into Rescue? They go to the homes of very special people who take the time to train them, work with them and love them. This allows us to learn about the specific needs of each dog so we are able to find the best family to place them with.
Foster Home Guidelines. Download a Foster Home Application.

Homes. Most of all, these wonderful dogs need permanent homes. If you think you are up to the challenge of taking in one of our very special Newfs as a permanent addition to your household, download an application today and send it in. You'll hear from one of us shortly.

Money. If you are turning a dog into Rescue, a donation is always appreciated. All Newfs are spayed or neutered before leaving Rescue. All Newfs have to be up to date on their vaccinations and are evaluated by a veterinarian and dog behavioralist before placing them in foster homes. We do fecal and heartworm testing as well. This is just the beginning for our new rescues; they may additionally require special food, toys, and additional trips to the vet. As a 100% volunteer organization, your donations help pay for animal care and education efforts.
